Tonopah Astronomical
Society (TAS)The Tonopah
Astronomical Society (TAS) was formed in 2003 by a handful
of amateur astronomers interested in getting together to
view the night-time sky from the darkness of central Nevada.
Our purpose is to promote interest in astronomy and related
sciences in central Nevada for the general public and for
club members.
Anyone with an interest in astronomy may
come to our meetings to learn more about us, or join us at
one of our public “star parties” to view stars, planets, and
deep-sky objects.
Business meetings are held monthly in the
Perchetti Room of Tonopah Station (the Ramada Inn), at 10
a.m. every first Saturday of the month, except December.
Star parties are generally held on weekend evenings in
various locations around town, including the Tonopah
Historic Mining Park, once to twice a month between spring
and fall, weather permitting.
In addition, we also hold an annual
Central Nevada Star Party (CNSP), at scenic Monte Cristo,
the designated site of Nevada’s newest State Park, 35 miles
northwest of Tonopah, where the skies are as dark as can be
found anywhere in the “lower 48”.
TAS members own a variety of telescopes,
including 14- and 12-inch Meade “go-to” compound telescopes,
along with several smaller scopes of various designs, and we
are eager to share the views of the dark sky through them
with you!

meetings, or better yet, at a star party!
